Rongo University, Kibabii University and African library have partnered to improve literacy skills in the western part of Kenya by supporting schools and communities to establish school libraries.

In this partnership, there are three main players;
African library Project (An NGO working in 12 African countries) Organizes
book drives, shipping of books from USA to Mombasa and also provides training manuals.

Local partners (Rongo University and Kibabii University) assist to identify the schools, train teacher librarians and monitors the project.

Progress
1. In Kenya, the project started in 2016 through Rongo University.
2. To date, 94 schools, 2 community library, 2 universities and 1 special library have been supported in Migori and Homabay counties.
3. On 9th Dec 2019, Rongo University received  a 3rd container with 64,000 books meant for 63 libraries in migori, Homabay  and Bungoma counties

The project aspires to cover the whole part of Western Kenya and beyond
